Purpose: To learn about African Americans during the time of slavery. All too often we forget about the struggles and hardships slaves endured to ensure life, freedom and an education for future generations. As George Santayana once said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." With that said, let us step out of the realm of the condemned and into that of educated.

-describe aspects of slave life and forms of resistance to slavery.
-describe and illustrate how slaves faced slavery and discrimination.
